Whole30 Journey: Days 28-30

Day 28: I Dream of…Donuts?

Breakfast: Cashew Cookie Larabar
Lunch: Balsamic pot roast with potatoes, carrots and celery
Dinner: Balsamic pot roast with potatoes, carrots and celery
Snacks: Almonds; fruit salad

I had a very odd moment on the way to work when I was listening to the radio and all of a sudden started thinking about donuts. It’s not that I don’t like donuts, but they’re not something I’ve at all been craving. Not saying that it wouldn’t be hard to turn down a Boston Cream donut if one landed in front of me, but they’re not a food I eat very often.

I suppose that’s just my mind going a little crazy with only two “official” days left to go. After that, the rules are what I make them.

Day 29: Time Flies

Breakfast: Cashew Cookie Larabar
Lunch: Balsamic pot roast with potatoes, carrots and celery
Dinner: Turkey burger topped with guacamole; cooked veggie medley with broccoli, cauliflower and carrots
Snacks: Almonds; sliced banana with almond butter

I woke up the morning of Day 29 in a bit of disbelief that the Whole30 was basically over. Going into the challenge, it seemed like the hardest thing in the world to do, and 30 days sounded like a lifetime. I’m honestly surprised by how (while not easy) I was able to keep on task, stay on target and power through this last month. It feels like I started on Monday, not several weeks ago.

Day 30: Now What?

Breakfast: Cashew Cookie Larabar; fruit salad
Lunch: Veggie medley with roast; fruit salad
Dinner: Baked apple and bananas with cinnamon and almond butter
Snacks: Almonds

I’m almost a little freaked out that today is Day 30 and that after this, there are no ‘rules’. It’s almost easier to live in the black-and-white-this-is-compliant-that-is-not world than to be ‘free’.

Instead of focusing so hard on meal planning and grocery shopping, it’s time to focus on the Reintroduction phase and really learn what food groups do and do not agree with me. In my opinion, that’s almost harder than just keeping them out of my diet all together. I haven’t officially decided what groups I’ll reintroduce, when I will reintroduce them, or what form I’ll reintroduce them with (a burger with cheese on it, or have coffee with creamer for dairy, etc.), but I do know what group is coming first: Wine.
