Whole30 Journey: Days 21-27

I would just like to kick off this post by asking this – Do you have any idea how difficult it is to stick to the Whole30 when you’re in New Orleans? No beignets, no wine, no hand grenade, no seafood with delicious sauces. I’m not saying that someone should send me a Whole30 award, but I’m also not saying that I’d send it back if I got one.

Day 14: Back to Sleepy Reality

Breakfast: Apple Pie Larabar
Lunch: Ground beef-and-turkey meatballs; fruit salad
Dinner: Baked apple and banana with cinnamon and almond butter

The weekend definitely caught up with me this day. Even though I went to bed pretty early the night before, I was still pretty exhausted. By the time work was over and the groceries picked up from the store, I really had no motivation left to do anything at all. Even so, I forced myself to chop potatoes and fruit for this weeks fruit salad. After getting lunch together for the next day, I went to bed and was out by 8:45 PM.

Day 7: I’m Lovin’ It

Breakfast: Bacon and egg cups
Lunch: Buffalo chicken salad with salsa and guacamole
Dinner: Ground beef hash with sauteed peppers, onions and potatoes
Snacks: Almonds

This morning I felt like the ‘sleepy’ phase of Whole30 smacked me upside the head. It was so hard to get out of bed, I ended up pushing my snooze button like three times – something I never do. Once I forced myself to get moving, I was able to shake it off. Honestly, while I felt great today and had a good amount of energy, nothing too exciting happened today.

One full week down, three weeks to go.

Rainy Saturday Inspiration

I’ve been awake since about 2:30 this morning. I’m not too sure what happened, I was completely sleep and then *BAM* I was wide awake. I tossed and turned, nodding off for 15-20 minute time periods here and there, but otherwise all sleeping efforts were in vain.

CinnaBun Brunch

One of my favorite breakfast indulgences is ooey-gooey cinnamon rolls with cream cheese icing. Yummy. It usually has to be a special occasion of some sort for me to make them, because they’re not something I want to be tempted by very often (too much of a good thing and all that).

A Taste of Fall

For most people ‘Fall’ seems synonymous with ‘pumpkin’. Pumpkin seeds. Pumpkin bread. Pumpkin muffins. Pumpkin pie. And of course there is the (in)famous Pumpkin Spice Latte.

Not for me, though. During the Fall, I am all about the apple.

Last weekend I went to an apple orchard with the Firefighter, one of our good friends and her chunky monkey of a toddler aged son. The cold snap in the air last weekend made it feel like the perfect fall morning: cool enough to need long sleeves and a light jacket but warm enough in the sun not to be too cold. Perfect.

While we were at the cider mill, I immediately got some of the ever-so-addicting cinnamon donuts and apple cider slushes (why places in the Midwest during the fall don’t offer WARM apple cider is beyond me, but I’m rolling with it).

apple butter

And of course while I was there, I picked up some apple cider and apple butter so that I can continue to enjoy the apple deliciousness at home.
