Whole30 Journey: Days 21-27

I would just like to kick off this post by asking this – Do you have any idea how difficult it is to stick to the Whole30 when you’re in New Orleans? No beignets, no wine, no hand grenade, no seafood with delicious sauces. I’m not saying that someone should send me a Whole30 award, but I’m also not saying that I’d send it back if I got one.

Whole30 Journey: Days 1-6

Before the new year, I decided to participate in the January Whole30 challenge since I knew a couple of people at work and one of my best friends is doing it, too. I knew if I was going to do it with others, I’d need to have people to hold me accountable. Here’s the breakdown of my experience so far:

Day 1: I’ve Got This

Breakfast: Two egg white ‘muffins’ with spinach and bell pepper
Lunch: Baked chicken breast and steamed broccoli/cauliflower
Dinner: Baked chicken breast and sauteed zucchini and summer squash
Snacks: Almonds, banana

I definitely had an ‘easy’ day. The meals I had are ones that I eat regularly  during the work-week, so I didn’t feel like I was actually doing anything different. Already a big tea drinker, I stuck just to green tea and water as opposed to drinking coffee (I am not a good enough of a coffee drinker to do without flavored creamer/fake sugar).

Happy 2017!

I’m currently spending the first day of the year in yoga pants on the couch, sipping tea and having a Netflix marathon. It may not be a big jump start to the year, but after spending the last 6 months of the year being non-stop ‘go-go-go’, this veg day is exactly what the doctor ordered. 2017 is going to be just as busy as 2016, so I’m going to take advantage of lazy days when I can!

So Long, 2016

I think that it’s safe to say that 2016 has been one hell of a wild ride. On a personal level, though, it’s been an amazing year and I wanted to share some of my highlights:

  1. The Firefighter and I got married and I officially became a part of a new family.
  2. The Firefighter and I went on an epic European honeymoon, a fantastic adventure with memories that will last us a lifetime.
  3. I jetted to New York to help one of my best friends find her wedding dress.
  4. I got to spend a shopping-food-and-wine filled weekend in Chicago with two of my favorite people – and as a bonus, spend time with my brother and his beautiful girlfriend.
  5. I got to celebrate both Thanksgiving and Christmas with family and loved ones, something we don’t always get to do since we live so far apart.
  6. I successfully managed to drink around the world on my fourth attempt trying and celebrate the bachelorette party of a beautiful bride-to-be.
  7. The Cubs won the World Series.

2016 was great to me. I can’t wait to see what opportunities 2017 has in store.

New Year; New Goals

Happy New YearHappy New Year!

My thin Florida blood has not remotely adjusted to mid-west winter weather, so I spent my New Year’s Eve sipping on pink champagne and keeping warm. Perhaps a bit low key, but since the Firefighter was on duty it was the perfect way for me to ring in the new year.
