Happy Valentine’s Day!
I’m excited because this is the first Valentine’s Day that the Firefighter and I have actually ever been in the same place for – in the past one of us has always been away for work. We are cooking up dinner at home and relaxing. Neither of us are super big on Valentine’s Day, plus…it’s a Tuesday, and we both work tomorrow. It’s a steak dinner and a glass of wine before he passes out pretty early type of night. That’s the life for a firefighter couple sometimes!

What a whirlwind the last month has been! Most of it was revolved around my honeymoon – preparing for it, being out of the country for 16 days, and getting back in the swing of things once we returned. Now things are back to a semblance of normal in my daily routine with the Firefighter and Thanksgiving is less than a week away!
I have a ton of things to update on, but to kick off I thought I’d do a quick Year of Dates update. We’ve gotten three more months of dates under our belts and I’m sorry to say that it’s almost been a bit difficult to work them in at all! I guess that’s what life does – times get busy and it’s almost too easy to skip planning dates and special one-on-one time with your significant other. Even with the differences in both of our schedules, though, we’ve managed to work in our ‘special’ date nights.

When it came to a wedding gift for the Firefighter, I struggled for quite some time trying to figure out what to get him. I didn’t want to give him just anything, I wanted to give him something that would be meaningful and, ideally, be a gift that kept on giving after our actual wedding day. After a few weeks of brainstorming and browsing Pinterest it hit me – The best gift to give the Firefighter is the gift of quality time by coming up with one planned ate night each month throughout our first year of marriage.

Like with most people who are in relationships with people who work non-traditional schedules, the Firefighter and I haven’t seen much of each other the last week or so. Last weekend in particular I did not get to see him much between his regular shifts and overtime. With the few hours we had together, I wanted to do something relaxing, but fun.
